2012 A Changing Melody

A Changing Melody provides people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as their family members with information and strategies for planning ahead and living a meaningful life with dementia.  This year's forum "Hope, Harmony through Humour" will take place on April 21, 2012 from 10am to 2pm at the Holiday Inn Convention Centre, 327 Ontario St., St. Catharines.  Specific event details will follow.  For registration details, please contact the Alzheimer Society of Niagara at 1-877-818-3202.

 

Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) project

The Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) project is a provincial initiative focusing on providing quality care for individuals with complex and challenging mental health, dementia or other neurological conditions, in an environment that is based on safety, high quality, evidence-based care and practice.

We are recruiting healthcare personnel to work in a mobile team model to support the BSO project in the community setting.

Positions will be filled in each category in the communities of Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Norfolk, Brant & Burlington for a Behavioural Support Outreach Coach (Regulated Health Professional) and an Intensive Geriatric Services Facilitator .  For detailed job descriptions with education and qualification requirements, please refer to Job Opportunities in the Latest News Section or in the Job Opportunities under the About Us tab.

Brant Lecture...Looking into the Crystal Ball

I am thrilled to announce that we will be hosting Dr. Ron Keren, MD, FRCPC, as our January Awareness Speaker.

Dr. Keren is the Interim Medical Director, Geriatric Rehabilitation Program Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Centre, Founder and President, Canadian Colloqium on Dementia, Clinical Director, University Health Network Memory Clinic, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto, and also on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

In 2009, Dr. Keren won a special recognition award from the Alzheimer Society of Canada for “rising to the challenge in the fight against Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.”

Dr. Keren has made a significant contribution to the body of knowledge about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Canada through his work as Founder and President of the Canadian Colloquium on Dementia (CCD). The CCD is a forum for enhancing knowledge

translation on dementia from researchers to front-line clinicians.  Join us to hear Dr. Keren share his knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and the related dementias, the risk factors, including genetics, as well as current trends in Alzheimer’s research and medical treatments.  

He will be joining us for the evening on Thursday, January 12th from 7-9pm at Fairview United Church. 

His lecture is entitled – “Alzheimer’s Disease – Looking into the crystal ball…”

That evening, we will be asking for donations for admission.
