February Programs

Hello and welcome to our February programs listing!

Please note that in-person group programming has been suspended until February 11th (or later, depending on public health guidelines), in keeping with the provincial Stay-at-Home order to stop the spread of Covid-19. Some group programming will be delivered online during this time, others will be postponed until after the lockdown.

Please email them your question(s), and they will reply back with the date and time of your local zoom meeting. Meetings will be approximately 45 minutes. Each presentation will be unique and will addresses the questions that had been sent in. Invitations will be sent exclusively to the people who sent in questions!

Women’s Discussion Group | Bi-Weekly Wednesdays 10:30AM to Noon | January 27th to March 24th

A  biweekly discussion group for women caregivers to discuss the challenges they may face through their caregiving journey.

North Halton Long-Term Care Group | Thursdays 2-3:30PM | February 4th to March 11th

six week virtual support group for care partners that are supporting a person living with dementia in long term care. 

Reitman Centre TEACH Program | Fridays 10-11:30AM | February 5th to 26th

This program assists carers in coping with the practical and emotional challenges of supporting those living with dementia.

Reitman Centre CARERS Program | Fridays 2-3:30PM | February 5th to March 26th

CARERS is a practical, hands-on therapeutic group that looks at specific communication challenges due to caregiving responsibilities for those living with dementia. 

Reitman Centre CARERS Program | Tuesdays 10-11:30AM | February 16th to April 6th

CARERS is a practical, hands-on therapeutic group that looks at specific communication challenges due to caregiving responsibilities for those living with dementia. 

Reitman Centre CARERS Program | Wednesdays 10-11:30AM | February 24th to April 14th

CARERS is a practical, hands-on therapeutic group that looks at specific communication challenges due to caregiving responsibilities for those living with dementia. 

Frontotemporal Education & Support | Wednesdays 2-3:30PM | February 18th to March 25th

This series will combine support and education sessions for caregivers of a person living with FTD who resides at home. Support-focused sessions will provide a safe environment with opportunities for participants to connect with others and explore themes including role changes and caregiver wellness. The education-focused sessions will provide information on brain and related behaviour and communication changes along with relevant resources. 

Frontotemporal Dementia Support Group | Second Tuesday of the Month 10 – 11:30AM | Ongoing

A monthly support group for Halton care partners that are supporting someone living with Frontotemporal Dementia.  

Georgetown Carers Café | Fourth Friday of the Month 10 – 11:30AM | Ongoing

A monthly drop in support group for care partners in Halton Hills that are supporting a person living with dementia.  

Mount Sinai Mindfulness Group | 8-Week Group

Practice different meditation skills each session and learn how to cope with internal and external stressors. This group is offered through our friends at The Reitman Centre. To register, call 905-630-9517.

Teepa Tuesdays | February 2nd from 10-11AM

The first Tuesday of every month! Join us to learn about Teepa Snow’s Positive Approaches to Care framework.

Dementia Education Series (4 sessions) | Thursdays 6:30-8:30PM | February 4th to February 25th

For family and friends of persons living with dementia to understand the different types of dementia, the resulting changes, and understanding community resources. NOTE: The final session of this 4-part series will focus on community resources in Hamilton.

Middle Stage Education Series | Wednesdays 6:30-8:30PM | February 10th to March 3rd

A three session learning series for family and friends of persons living with dementia who are in the middle stage. Topics include: recognizing middle stage, hands-on care tips, long term care discussion.

Strengthen Your Mind | Mondays  & Thursdays 3-4PM | January 12th to February 18th

Enhance your memory skills and practice brain challenges!  Offered in partnership with the Hamilton Public Library.

Positive Approach to Care: Normal Aging vs Not Normal Aging | February 1st 1:30 – 3:30PM

The workshop emphasizes the value of matching helping behaviours to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction, and addresses typical issues that occur throughout the progression of dementia.

Safety in the Home | February 18th 2:00 – 3:00PM

Dementia can impact a person’s physical and cognitive abilities. Safety may be affected by such dementia symptoms (i.e., confusion, memory loss and disorientation), limited mobility, or by changes in the environment. Join us to talk about how to help the person with dementia feel safe and secure as possible. We will also be discussing ‘safety checklist items’ to help ensure the environment inside and outside the home is as safe as possible.

Changes in Intimacy During the Journey of Dementia | February 23rd 3:00 – 4:00PM

Please join us as we explore the impact of dementia on intimate relationships.

Mid-Day Melodies | February 19th | 11AM to Noon (3rd Friday of every month)

Join us for a fun music appreciation online program! No talent required! Listen to some classics and learn some interesting facts.

Laughter Yoga | Every Thursday | 10AM to 11AM

This weekly drop-in program offering laughter yoga is a unique exercise routine that combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing. For care partners and people living with dementia.

Together Apart | Every Tuesday | 11AM to Noon

The group will have activities for the person living with dementia and their guest to participate in together. Once registered people can attend on a drop-in basis.

Social Club | Every Thursday | 2PM to 3PM

The group will have activities for the person living with dementia and their guest to participate in together. Once registered people can attend on a drop-in basis. 

Sit to Be Fit | Daily from Monday to Friday | Various Times

Sit to Be Fit is a 1-hour online class open to older adults of various abilities. The class involves a workout of all major muscle groups with a focus on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance.

Sit to be Fit is offered:

– Mondays at 9AM, 10AM and Noon

– Tuesdays at 9AM

– Wednesdays at 9AM, 1PM and 2PM

– Thursdays at 9AM

– Fridays at 9AM and 2PM

Minds in Motion (Virtual) | Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays | Various Times

The sessions combine both an exercise component and a social component to promote physical and cognitive health. This program is designed for both people who are experiencing early to mid-stage memory loss and their guests.

Minds in Motion is offered online on:

– Mondays at 11AM (Haldimand-Norfolk group, but anyone can join!)

– Tuesdays at 1:30PM (Hamilton group, but anyone can join!)

– Wednesdays at 10:30AM (Halton, but anyone can join!)
