Hello and welcome to our January programs listing!

Please note that in-person group programming has been suspended until February 11th (or later, depending on public health guidelines), in keeping with the provincial Stay-at-Home order to stop the spread of Covid-19. Some group programming will be delivered online during this time, others will be postponed until after the lockdown.

Self-Care for the Caregiver | Wednesdays 1-4PM | January 27th to May 5th

A 16-week educational program for Hamilton and Halton caregivers to help build resilience and self-support skills.

Women's Discussion Group | Bi-Weekly Wednesdays 10:30AM to Noon | January 27th to March 24th

A  biweekly discussion group for women caregivers to discuss the challenges they may face through their caregiving journey.

Caregiver Support Group | Bi-Weekly Wednesdays 1-2:30PM | January 27th to March 24th

A biweekly discussion group for caregivers to discuss the challenges they may face through their caregiving journey.

Frontotemporal Dementia Support Group | Second Tuesday of the Month 10 - 11:30AM | Ongoing

A monthly support group for Halton care partners that are supporting someone living with Frontotemporal Dementia.  

Georgetown Carers Café | Fourth Friday of the Month 10 - 11:30AM | Ongoing

A monthly drop in support group for care partners in Halton Hills that are supporting a person living with dementia.  

Mount Sinai Mindfulness Group | 8-Week Group

Practice different meditation skills each session and learn how to cope with internal and external stressors. This group is offered through our friends at The Reitman Centre. For dates, call 905-630-9517.

Teepa Tuesdays | January 5th from 10-11AM

The first Tuesday of every month! Join us to learn about Teepa Snow’s Positive Approaches to Care framework.

Dementia Education Series (4 sessions) | Thursdays 1:30-3:30PM | January 7th to January 28th

For family and friends of persons living with dementia to understand the different types of dementia, the resulting changes, and understanding community resources. NOTE: The final session of this 4-part series will focus on community resources in Hamilton.

Strengthen Your Mind | Mondays  & Thursdays 3-4PM | January 12th to February 18th

Enhance your memory skills and practice brain challenges!  Offered in partnership with the Hamilton Public Library.

First Steps Education Series (6 sessions) | Tuesdays 2-3:0PM | January 12th to January 26th

A six week learning series delivered on-line for persons with early stage memory loss and their guest. First Steps helps individuals newly diagnosed with a dementia understand their diagnosis and the changes they experience.

Considering the Move to Long-Term Care | January 18th 2-4PM

Learn how to evaluate your current care giving needs and explore other possible care options available, including long term care.

Care in the Later Stages (5 sessions) | Tuesdays 10-11:30AM | January 19th to February 16th

Learn what to expect in the later stages of dementia. The series will also explore how participants can provide comfort to the person with dementia as well as review the experiences of grief and loss.

Preparing for the Move to Long-Term Care | January 25th 2-4PM

Companion session to the January 18th workshop on considering a move.

Positive Approach to Care: Normal Aging vs Not Normal Aging | January 25th & February 1st 1:30 – 3:30PM

Participate in one or both sessions! The workshop emphasizes the value of matching helping behaviours to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction, and addresses typical issues that occur throughout the progression of dementia.

Genetics, Gender, and Alzheimer’s Disease | January 26th 7-8:30PM

Dr. Barbara Panning, Professor at the University Southern California, will share her research findings on why women generally progress more slowly on their dementia journey than men.

I Have Dementia: An Interview with Debbie, a Person Living with Dementia | January 29th 10-11AM

Please join us as Debbie shares her experiences on how to live and thrive with dementia. There will be time for your questions to be answered.

Mid-Day Melodies | January 15th | 11AM to Noon (3rd Friday of every month)

Join us for a fun music appreciation online program! No talent required! Listen to some classics and learn some interesting facts.

Laughter Yoga | Every Thursday | 10AM to 11AM

This weekly drop-in program offering laughter yoga is a unique exercise routine that combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing. For care partners and people living with dementia.

Together Apart | Every Tuesday | 11AM to Noon

The group will have activities for the person living with dementia and their guest to participate in together. Once registered people can attend on a drop-in basis.

Social Club | Every Thursday | 2PM to 3PM

The group will have activities for the person living with dementia and their guest to participate in together. Once registered people can attend on a drop-in basis. 

Sit to Be Fit | Daily from Monday to Friday | Various Times

Sit to Be Fit is a 1-hour online class open to older adults of various abilities. The class involves a workout of all major muscle groups with a focus on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance.

Sit to be Fit is offered:

- Mondays at 9AM, 10AM and Noon

- Tuesdays at 9AM

- Wednesdays at 9AM, 1PM and 2PM

- Thursdays at 9AM

- Fridays at 9AM and 2PM

Minds in Motion (Virtual) | Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays | Various Times

The sessions combine both an exercise component and a social component to promote physical and cognitive health. This program is designed for both people who are experiencing early to mid-stage memory loss and their guests.

Minds in Motion is offered online on:

- Mondays at 11AM (Haldimand-Norfolk group, but anyone can join!)

- Tuesdays at 1:30PM (Hamilton group, but anyone can join!)

- Wednesdays at 10:30AM (Halton, but anyone can join!)
